Construction of Australia's largest agriculturally integrated solar farm commenced today in Canberra.

Maoneng's 13MW Mugga Lane Solar Park is being built on the corner of Mugga Lane and the Monaro Highway.

The project is one of three solar farms to provide renewable energy for the Territory as part of the ACT's 90% by 2020 Renewable Energy Target.

ACT Minister for the Environment and Climate Change, Simon Corbell, officiated at the sod-turning ceremony.

The Mugga Lane Solar Park will use a combination of tracking and ground-mounted arrays consisting of 53,000 panels and expected to power over 3,000 ACT homes.

The facility is also a featured site along SERREE's Renewable Energy Trail – a self-drive guided trail to showcase the diversity of renewable energy infrastructure sites located within the south east NSW-ACT region.
