Origin wins Royal Australian Mint solar project

Origin Energy has signed up the Royal Australian Mint under a 15 power purchase agreement (PPA) for the installation of a 263 kilowatt, 924 panel solar system at the Mint's Canberra facility in Deakin.

Origin will deliver the system under a model where they will design-build, own, operate and maintain the installation, with the Royal Australian Mint paying for the power it generates at a 5 cent per kilowatt-hour discount to importing power from the grid, according to a Mint spokesperson.

Origin’s Chief Executive Energy Markets, Frank Calabria said, “This is one of the largest solar PPA installations on a building in Australia to date, and demonstrates how large organisations are now making the most of solar energy.

Solar can deliver businesses benefits to both their bottom line and their carbon footprint, and it is great that the Mint is leading the way for big business in Canberra”.
